North of 1st Avenue (highway 74), west of Brown Avenue (highway 10), south of highway 6 (Senator Carl T. Curtis Drive)
Total for today : 22,230 steps and 4:50 time.
Jennifer & I came to Minden for a few days for my Mom & Dad’s 62nd wedding anniversary. Had beautiful weather for the trip and for walking.
Boy, I took a lot of pictures today. A good number of them were from my old schools, which are all in this area. That’s elementary from 4th grade on, junior high (middle school to you young whippersnappers), and high school, So I’m going to add a second blog to today’s walk, covering only the schools. It probably won’t be as interesting to somebody who didn’t go to school in Minden, so feel free to skip it if you so desire.
Carl T. Curtis served in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate for a LONG time…. a congressman since 1939, and then senator from 1954 to 1979 (which is basically the entire time I lived in Nebraska.. I was born in 1954 and moved to Missouri in 1977). So the section of highway 6 that passes through Minden has apparently been named after him.
I didn’t realize he was actually born on a farm near Minden…

A couple of general observations from my walk…
there’s a lot of team spirit on display in town… both for the Minden Whippets and for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Halloween displays and the family name markers sometime even throw in some team spirit…

2) people are more lax about their dogs running around loose. But the dogs I saw out loose seemed fairly non-threatening.

fortunately this dog was tied up… he was a little threatening!
