Area covered today — North of 9th, East of Francis, South of Mountain View, West of Gay

Today is my first time going west of Main Street, so therefore pedaled my bike to my wife’s dental office    to start out.  9th and Gay, the SE corner of this area, is just two blocks away.  I purposely chose an area that has a lot of alleys, just to see how that affects the time required.  As it turns out, quite a bit.  It also turns out that the number of dogs that are upset with my presence goes up enormously in alleys as opposed to the street sidewalks.  Probably at least 20 times the canine encounters per block!!  I’ll just hope that the back yard fences are well-maintained.

I knew that some houses on the streets in this area were at a bit of an angle… perhaps 5 degrees tilted from the street.  I did not realize that, as far as I can tell, it is every house from Sherman to Gay, and between  11th and Mountain View (Mountain View is between 12th and 14th, apparently skipping a certain number-which-shall-not-be-named).

I was also struck by the fact that Venice St. between 11th and Mountain View appears considerably wider than the adjoining streets.  I tested that hypothesis, and found it took me 22 paces to cross Venice, and only 16 to cross Aspen.

A little explanation of the ‘new age music’ picture of the buckets underneath the camper, below.  As the snow was melting, the water dripping into the various containers, each having a different tone, was making some cool music.  I’m pretty sure this was not an accident… I’m guessing there’s a budding musical genius living somewhere near by.

I also ‘discovered’ a weird little proto-alley near 9th and Grant… it looks like it was originally meant to be an alley, but now is perhaps just a utility easement or something.  I’m not even sure if I should be walking through there or not.   It also gave a view of some older buildings which look like they may have been remnants of former farm buildings, back from when 9th Avenue used to be the northern end of Longmont.

Total time for today was 4:10… 23800 steps.  This does not include approx. 40 minutes of (slow) bike riding to get to and from my starting point.
