June 16 — Gooseberry/Renaissance

North of Clover Basin, west of Airport Rd., south of Nelson Rd., east of Grandview Meadows Dr.

Total for today: 20,080 steps and 3:36 time.

One new license plate today… New Hampshire (cumulative 44)

Today was (finally!) my first time walking an area in the southwest part of town.  My ‘new’ bike was very nice and smooth in getting me there along 9th Avenue and Airport Road, but I “discovered”‘ the bike path right near the airport on the way home, and was able to ride virtually all the way home without having to ride on many streets.  Very nice and scenic… and only took about 35 minutes of leisurely riding.

Today was Father’s Day.  I got an early start this morning, so I would easily be back in time for a lunch with the family.  My son Nick was not able to make it as his Ft. Collins band, “Wasteland Hop”, is on tour for a few weeks in Nevada, California, Oregon, and Alaska.  Let me put in a plug for them by linking to a cute video they just released.  Nick is the tall one wearing the goofy outfit that you see just as the two lead singers enter the studio (about 2/3 of the way through the video)…

I walked by this beautiful house, directly east of Silver Creek High School.  Even though it  is across the street from today’s walking area, I’m including it in today write-up because (see the link below) it may not be there by the time I walk that neighborhood.  I have never noticed it before, but was surprised to see such an elegant and apparently quite new house being boarded up.

I was surprised and glad that THE VERY NEXT DAY this house was addressed in Johnny St. Vrain’s column in the Times-Call!!!  How’s that for synchronicity?!?  I do have a beef with the headline chosen for the column, which refers to it as ‘This old house’…. it doesn’t look old at all to me.  It seems like a shame for such a lovely building to be torn down.

I would also love to know more of the story behind this house…. when was it built?  was it ever occupied? and why is it being torn down??

I was happy to get a New Hampshire license plate photo today.  It has a picture of the ‘Old Man of the Mountain’ on it, which also appears on the state quarter, and which fell down in 2003.  I put a link to the wikipedia article on this in my January 16 blog, which was related to the children’s book “The Enormous Egg”, but seems worthy of repeating here…
