August 13 — NW of Mountain View & Gay

North of Mountain View, west of Gay St.,  south of 17th , east of Francis.

Total for today: estimated  14,000 steps (forgot pedometer) and  2:37 time.

YEAGER FARMS

Apparently this neighborhood was once a part of Yeager Farms (even though my Stoney Ridge neighborhood about a mile or two east of here was also part of a Yeager Farm… maybe there was more than one Yeager farm).

It seems like Moab, Utah has done a really good job of advertising itself.  I’ve seen similar plugs for the area…

I actually couldn't find this website... but might be a good time to mention the books I've read since last mention on 7/xx/13

I actually couldn’t find this website…

Haven’t mentioned the books I’ve read for a while…  a book combining Call of the Wild and White Fang, both by Jack London.  He does a very good job of describing events from a dog’s point of view!    The Last Days of the Incas… a VERY good book by Kim MacQuarrie  covering the taking over of the Inca empire by Pizarro… read mostly because we’re thinking of a trip to Machu Picchu next year…

and also Demian by Hermann Hesse.  I really like Steppenwolf, but Demian starts out good, but the last half is a little too metaphysical for me…

Coincidentally, Jenni’s hygienist Debbie happens to be in Europe for her son’s wedding as I do this walk.  And one of the places on their agenda is Neuschwanstein (New Swan Stone) Castle, which is the inspiration of Disneyland’s castle (it also appears at the end of the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang).  Mad King Ludwig (II), an admirer of Richard Wagner’s works, spearheaded several such castles, which happened to bankrupt his country, until he met a mysterious death in a lake…

Fussen is the town just below Neuschwanstein… just a few miles (kilometers?) from Austria…
