North of 17th, west of Main, south of 21st, east of Gay
Started out at 57 degrees…. was 62 when I finished up about 3 hours later.
The streets in the southwest area of today’s walk deal with upper-class females… Queens, Princess, Duchess, and Countess. The are all in the area of Gay Street, a coincidence which probably didn’t have the innuendos that may exist today. It appears that the street was named after Sydney Howard Gay, a Chicago journalist that never actually lived in Longmont, but supported the early Chicago Colony.

Queen is one of my favorite rock groups of all times. It was fronted by Freddie Mercury, who is one of the top rock vocalists of all time, and perhaps the top theatrical frontman for a group. He was born on Zanzibar, off the east coast of Africa.
Brian May, the lead guitarist for Queen, later went on to get a PhD in astrophysics!

The Heroes monument is at Northridge Elementary. I recognized the names of James Hamm and Stephen Day, of the Vietnam era, who have parks named after them which I have covered in previous blogs. “Doc” Christopher Anderson was killed in Iraq, and I went to his funeral at Grace Evangelical Free Church a few years ago. Vance Brand is still alive as of this writing… he is an astronaut who grew up in Longmont, and the auditorium at Skyline HS is named after him.
This looks like it may have been influenced by Nepalese prayer flags… or maybe there were just a lot of handkerchiefs in today’s laundry…

Some results of the roughly half-inch of rain we had just a day before…

Several dental offices in today’s area, including Dental Aid…
but the Three Stooges poster (from inside Bingo Alley) is IN NO WAY indicative of the quality of dental care there…..
By the way, Bingo Alley has been remodeled since I’ve been in there, and seems like a very nice place… Jennifer & I thought we should go there sometime soon….
I like this mailbox… and the owner was out doing garden work as I went by. He said he built it himself (even though he is not a brick mason). I would say he did a very good job!!
There seems to be something a little redundant with this Dairy Queen sign.. it’s either $5 lunch, or 5 buck lunch. To be a $5 buck lunch just confuses me…
Total for today: 17,200 steps, 3:09 time
No new state license plate… but one from Durango, Mexico!!!
It was fun to be able to join you for part of your walk today. You always make it interesting, even if it seems like a part of town that isn’t that colorful.
